That list isn't shrinking itself.

Hand us the whole thing — repairs, upgrades, and safety fixes in one visit. Many customers wish they'd called sooner.

A worker adjusting kitchen cabinetry during a small repair job.

Practical help, no big production

You don't need a renovation. You just need it fixed.

It might be a cabinet door that won't close, a loose door handle, or a shelf that's been waiting in the hallway for weeks. These small things affect how your home feels every day.

We help you turn that unfinished list into a manageable plan — useful repairs and sensible upgrades, without making a simple job bigger than it needs to be.

Seniors & caregivers

Growing older at home, with the right kind of help.

For older homeowners, adult children, and caregivers, we offer patient, plain-spoken help with the practical side of staying at home: steadier bathrooms, better lighting, easier handles, and fewer trip hazards.

  • Grab bars anchored into real backing
  • Lighting improved on the paths used at night
  • Shelving and storage within easy reach
  • Family and caregivers welcome at every visit

We are a handyman service, not a medical or clinical provider.

The number you approve is the number you pay. Here is what sits inside it, and what will never appear on it.

Included every time

  • The materials list in writing before the day, so you can see what is being bought

From first call to done

A simpler way to get it done.

No confusing process. Three steps, and the list starts shrinking.

01

Request

Call or send a short request. A few photos help but are never required — a plain description in your own words is perfect.

02

Schedule

We talk through the details, agree on the scope and the price before work begins, and find a visit time that fits your week.

03

Get it done

We arrive on time, do the work carefully, walk through the result with you, and leave the space cleaner than we found it.

An open toolbox with everyday tools and a light bulb.

Our promise

Done right, or we make it right.

Three simple commitments on every single visit — no fine print.

  • On time and prepared: we confirm the day before and arrive with the right tools and parts.
  • Tidy and respectful: shoe covers, drop cloths, clear walkways, and quiet hours honored.
  • Walkthrough together: you check every fix with us before we pack up — anything not right gets fixed on the spot.

Local knowledge

Four kinds of house, four different lists.

Kensington, Berlin and New Britain were not built in one decade. What a house needs depends on when it went up and how it was put together — so here is what we actually find in each of the four types we work in most.

Built before 1940

Colonials, capes and four-squares

The old ones. True-dimension lumber, plaster over wood lath, and original trim that is worth saving rather than replacing.

  • Plaster walls crack cleanly but resist a drywall anchor — fixings have to be chosen, not guessed
  • Doors and windows swell in humid weather and bind in the frame
  • Trim, baseboard and casings are often one-of-a-kind; we repair rather than swap
Built 1945–1975

Post-war capes and ranches

The largest share of the housing in Newington, Plainville, Rocky Hill and the Berlin neighborhoods — solid, modest, and largely untouched since.

  • Early drywall and rock lath that crumbles rather than holds when a fixing fails
  • One bathroom for the whole house — so it is the room that matters most for safety
  • Hollow-core doors, builder hinges and latches at the end of their life
Multi-family

Triple-deckers and two-families

Common in New Britain and Middletown. Three units usually means the same repair three times, and coordination that has to include a landlord.

  • Same sticking door, same tired caulk, same loose railing on every floor
  • Shared walls mean work has to be scheduled around tenants
  • Billing and access handled in one conversation with the owner
Built 1980–2005

Subdivision colonials

Avon, Glastonbury and Cromwell. Structurally sound, but the original builder-grade hardware and sealants are now 20 to 40 years old.

  • Hinges, handles and drawer slides wearing out together across the house
  • Caulk and weather seal around windows and doors past its service life
  • Empty-nest owners updating for aging in place rather than moving

If you are not sure which one your house is, that is a normal phone call — describe the walls, the doors and the year and we can usually place it.

Through the year

A Connecticut house asks for different things each season.

Freeze-thaw, humidity and short winter days do most of the damage to a house in this state. It helps to know what usually shows up when.

Winter

Doors stop closing. Heat and dry air shrink the house, and every door and drawer that was fine in October starts to bind. Also the season for drafts, cold floors and handrails that feel loose with gloves on.

Spring

The winter walkthrough. What the freeze moved: trim pulled away, caulk split, a step that lifted, a downspout that let go. Best done before the first hot stretch.

Summer

Humidity swells wood. The same doors that stuck in January stick again in July, for the opposite reason. Good months to repaint trim and touch up walls, because paint cures properly.

Autumn

The one that matters most. A pre-winter safety sweep before the ice: handrails, steps, outdoor lighting, thresholds and the path to the door. A few fixings in October is a much easier afternoon than the same list in January.

We do not sell a maintenance plan. If you would rather just get one honest sweep a year and call when something breaks, that works too.

What a visit looks like

Three jobs, start to finish.

The same four things happen on every visit: we look, we say what we found, we fix it, and we tell you how it went. Here is that shape on three common jobs.

Bathroom grab barsKensington · half day
Found

Tile over greenboard with no blocking behind it. A bar screwed straight into the tile would have pulled out the first time it took real weight.

Did

Located the studs, added solid blocking where there was none, sealed the penetrations, and set two bars plus a shower seat rated well above the load.

Checked

Every fixing pulled on by hand before we left, and the whole layout walked through with the daughter on speakerphone.

A bathroom that can be used without holding on to the towel rail.

Sticking interior doorsNewington · short visit
Found

Three doors catching at the top corner. The hinges had sagged, not the frame — and one strike plate was never set deep enough.

Did

Tightened and reset the hinges, planed the binding edge a hair, reset the strike, and adjusted the latch so each door closes with a light push.

Checked

Opened and closed each door a dozen times, including with one hand while carrying something.

No more shoulder against the door to get into the spare room.

Whole-house punch listBerlin · half day
Found

Nine small items on a written list — a loose towel bar, a curtain rod pulling out, a drawer that would not track, two nail pops, a wobbling handrail, and more.

Did

Grouped the work by room so we moved through the house once, swapped two anchors for proper toggle fixings, and reset the handrail into the stud.

Checked

Walked the list item by item at the end and marked each one off with the homeowner.

Nine things off the list in one afternoon.

These are the three jobs we are asked for most. Yours will follow the same shape.

The Beneva difference

The kind of service you'd tell a neighbor about.

Good work starts with showing up — on time, prepared, and treating your home with respect.

Small jobs matter.

A loose handle deserves the same care as a larger project. We don't talk anyone out of a small job.

Clear from the start.

We discuss scope and pricing before work begins. No pressure, no surprise charges, no jargon.

Your home, respected.

Careful work, clean drop cloths, and a tidy space when we're done. We act like respectful guests in your home.

Practical, not pushy.

Useful solutions for what you actually need. If a job needs a licensed specialist, we say so plainly.

What clients say

What families say when the visit is over.

Most of our work comes from adult children arranging help for a parent. These are the parts they mention most.

“My 82-year-old mom was terrified of falling in the shower. Daniel explained everything to her, not past her, and never rushed a single question. Bars, shower seat, handheld showerhead — done in one visit.”

Daniel repliedThank you for saying this — your mom asked good questions and deserved straight answers. Glad the bars and the seat are working out.
“I live in Ohio and my dad is in Newington. Daniel sent photos of every fix and called me before he left. I have never had a contractor do that without being asked.”

Daniel repliedHappy to keep doing it. Photos and a call before we leave are the standard on every job for a family member who cannot be there.
“On time, shoe covers, spotless cleanup. My dad's whole list gone in half a day and the price was exactly what was quoted.”

Daniel repliedThat list had been sitting a while — thanks for trusting us with all nine. Call any time something else turns up.
Reviews are collected after the final walkthrough. If something was not right, we would rather hear it than have you write it — and we still come back within 30 days.

Every review above came from a customer after the walkthrough, and each one is answered by Daniel personally.

A few good questions

Before we get started.

Still wondering about something? Just ask — by phone is always fine.

Is my project too small?

No. Small jobs are most of our work. A single loose handle or one shelf is a perfectly good reason to call. We'd rather fix it properly now than watch it become a bigger repair later.

How does pricing work?

We explain pricing before work begins. For a list of small jobs, we review the list with you, agree on the scope, and give you a clear price before anything starts. No surprise charges.

Do you handle electrical or plumbing work?

We handle small, non-licensed tasks — like replacing a fixture cover or a faucet aerator. Work that Connecticut law reserves for licensed electricians and plumbers is outside our scope, and we'll tell you plainly when a job needs a licensed professional.

Can I combine several small jobs?

Yes — please do. A grouped list is the most efficient way to use a visit. Write down everything that's annoying you and we'll work through it in the order that makes sense.

Do I need to know which service to choose?

No. Tell us in your own words what's bothering you — 'the kitchen door won't close' is perfect. We'll figure out which service it falls under.

Do I have to send photos or use an online form?

No. The website is here when it's convenient, but a phone call works for everything. You never have to email photos or fill out a form unless you want to.

Can someone else be with me during the visit?

Absolutely. Many visits include an adult child, a relative, a neighbor, or a caregiver. We're glad to walk through the list with anyone you'd like present, and to coordinate details with them too.

Do you provide emergency or medical services?

No. We are a handyman service, not an emergency or medical provider. For urgent safety or medical needs, contact your care provider or 911. For non-urgent home fixes, we'll schedule a visit that works for you.

How much does a typical visit cost?

Small-fix visits usually run $120–$300, and a half-day punch list runs $350–$600. Every quote is flat and approved by you before we start — the meter never runs.

How soon can you come out?

Most visits are scheduled within a few days. Hospital-discharge and safety-urgent jobs get priority — tell us the date and we'll work backward from it.

My mom needs grab bars. Can you do the whole bathroom?

Yes — bars, shower seat, raised toilet seat, handheld showerhead, and better lighting in one visit. Our Seniors & Caregivers page has the full picture.

Your home, in careful hands.

One call or a short request is all it takes. Tell us what needs fixing — in your own words — and we'll take it from there.
